Eileen Gu of the People’s Republic of China has been one of the biggest stars of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. There was a lot of pressure on the 22-year-old heading into her second Winter Games after being a dominant force in freestyle skiing over the past several years.
Gu met all expectations by winning a medal in her first two events. She won silver at the slopestyle final, followed by a second silver medal at the big air competition. This brought her total medal tally to six, making her the most decorated female freestyle skier in Winter Olympic history.

The Winter Games have captured the attention of some of the biggest celebrities in the world. One of the sporting icons who has come to support his fellow athletes in this year’s games is tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
The world No. 3-ranked tennis star was in attendance for the team figure skating event on Feb. 8. Djokovic watched Ilia Malinin and Team USA dominate the field for a gold medal.
Djokovic has also been following the other sports in the Olympics. The 38-year-old congratulated Gu after hearing about the big news. Djokovic posted a photo of Gu, the new five-time Olympic medalist, on his Instagram story.
Gu responded to Djokovic with two words. The decorated skier reposted Djokovic’s story along with this caption: “@djokernole inspo always 🤍🌟🙏”
Gu returned the compliment by saying Djokovic has inspired her. It’s great to see two athletes from different sports and different generations supporting each other. This shows how sports truly has no bounds.
Djokovic will cheer on Gu in her third and final event. The American-born skier has an opportunity to become a six-time medalist in her preferred event, the halfpipe. Gu will compete in the qualifying round on Thursday and hopes to qualify for the final on Saturday.
