Rangers recall Brett Berard and Brendan Brisson

The Rangers recalled forwards Brett Berard and Brendan Brisson yesterday as the Rangers resumed skating and practice. The pair of forwards were likely recalled to fill out lines while Mika Zibanejad, JT Miller, and Vincent Trocheck are at the Olympics. The recalls give the Rangers 14F/7D/2G on the roster right now, with Adam Fox, Conor Sheary, Adam Edstrom, and Igor Shesterkin all on IR or LTIR.

At least one of forward will be back by this weekend, as Zibanejad and Sweden face off against Miller, Trocheck, and USA tonight in the quarterfinals. But I don’t think the Rangers will be returning either until the entire roster is back, and possibly not even then. It seems like Trocheck is heading out the door before the Rangers drop the puck again next Thursday, so they might need the extra bodies.

I’m not going to jump on the Rangers for returning Berard to Hartford during the break and then recalling him yesterday. It plays into the yo-yo narrative, which is fair, but this time around it was justified.

Somewhat related news: Fox and Shesterkin were back at practice in full. It sounded like Sheary and Edstrom were as well, but that is unconfirmed. If Sheary and Edstrom are back, then we should see more roster moves when everyone is taken off LTIR.
