Wales set to hand star debut against Scotland as fly-half change expected

Wales are set to make changes for their Six Nations clash against Scotland this weekend

Sam Costelow is in line to make his first start of the Six Nations with uncapped Leicester Tigers wing Gabriel Hamer-Webb set to make his Wales debut against Scotland.

WalesOnline understands Steve Tandy will make changes at second-row, backrow, outside-half and the wing. The Wales squad went through a full-contact training session on Wednesday, so provided there haven’t been any late changes Tandy has given Costelow an opportunity.

Scarlets outside-half Costelow will wear the number 10 jersey at the Principality Stadium this Saturday, replacing Dan Edwards.

Ospreys playmaker Edwards has started at outside-half for the last seven games for Wales but Tandy has decided to change.

Costelow was left out of the autumn squad but has been outstanding for the Scarlets of late.

Adam Beard has paid the price for a poor showing against France by getting dropped from the team, with Ben Carter starting at lock alongside Dafydd Jenkins.

Tandy has also opted to parachute Taine Plumtree into his starting XV in place of Olly Cracknell, with Aaron Wainwright reverting from blindside flanker to No 8.

Hamer-Webb looks set to start on the wing, with his aerial prowess potentially winning him the nod.

The Six Nations is running from February 5 to March 14 and Wales Rugby fans can get the latest jerseys, hoodies and more at Fanatics.

The 25-year-old spent two seasons at Cardiff, scoring 12 tries, before signing for Leicester Tigers.

Hamer-Webb is expected to be named in the team in place of Ellis Mee.

The Scarlets wing was one of Wales’ better players against France but Josh Adams appears to have retained his place in the starting XV.

Wales suffered heavy defeats in the opening two rounds of the Six Nations against England and France respectively, with 102 points and 15 tries conceded.

Tandy’s side are at rock bottom of the Six Nations table and welcome his former side Scotland who are riding the crest of a wave after a stunning Calcutta Cup win over England last weekend.
