Bain was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, who stayed in Miami to play for the Hurricanes. He showed tremendous potential as a freshman, finishing with 12.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. In his sophomore season, Bain battled injury, but still posted 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. The 2025 season was his best yet, as he had 15.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. His play helped Miami make the National Championship Game.

Following the CFP run, Bain declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first round pick.

Rueben Bain Strengths

He is an effective pass rusher with a couple of good moves to go to when he needs a win. Bain gets a solid jump at the snap, uses his heavy hands to initiate contact and can bend around the edge. Bain is able to win with his strength or with his speed. He converts speed to power well as a rusher. His pass rush moves include a nice rip and a cross-chop move. Bain has added versatility, as he can rush from the interior as well.

For an edge rusher, Bain is a quality run defender. He sets the edge well and can force running backs to stay inside.  Bain is able to stack and shed well to go make plays on ball carriers. His play strength helps him shed, while his athleticism helps him chase down ball carriers. He makes a decent amount of plays behind the line of scrimmage against the run.

His blend of strength and athleticism is unique for an edge rusher. He weighs 270 pounds at 6-foot-3, sporting a filled-out frame. Bain has good play strength and with his leverage, can really unleash some power. His power is nice for an edge, but he also has good acceleration, agility and speed. This blend makes him a tough matchup.

Rueben Bain Weaknesses

Bain has good strength, but his height and length are below prototypical standards for the NFL. He is just 6-foot-3 and his shorter arms will show up in measurements at the combine. This limits his ability to shed at times when offensive linemen latch onto him quickly. He will have to make sure his technique is solid otherwise, long-limbed tackles could make life difficult for him.

Once his rush is stopped, Bain doesn’t have the ability to counter as much. He has good pass-rush moves, but when he gets to a point where those moves don’t work, he needs to add some counters to help him keep making progress towards the quarterback.

His motor can run cold sometimes. When there are plays to be made that are coming at him, he does his job. Plays that don’t come near him can sometimes see him not show as much effort. There are effort sacks and tackles on running plays left on the table at times. Showing better pursuit discipline will help him make even more plays.
