Rublev powers past Tsitsipas to reach consecutive Doha semifinals

The world No. 14 Andrey Rublev extended his winning streak in Doha to eight matches with a disciplined performance against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 28-year-old Russian, seeded fifth this week, has yet to drop a set in the 2026 tournament. His path to the semifinals included efficient victories over Dutchman Jesper de Jong 6-4, 6-3 and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6-2, 6-4. Rublev now holds a 7-2 record for the 2026 season and has reached the semifinals in five of his nine appearances at this event.

The quarterfinal clash saw Rublev neutralize the variety of Tsitsipas, who entered the match following a confidence-boosting win over fourth seed Daniil Medvedev. The 27-year-old Greek, currently ranked No. 33, struggled to break the Russian’s rhythm in the pressure moments of the second-set tiebreak.

The Russian appeared relaxed following the victory, reflecting on his sustained success at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. When asked why he performs so well in the Qatari capital, Rublev offered a candid assessment of his current form across the tour.

“Why are you so good here in Doha?”

“I don’t know. I don’t think that I’m good only in Doha…”

“Everywhere.”

“That’s better,” Rublev replied.

Rublev awaits the winner of the blockbuster quarterfinal between top seed Carlos Alcaraz and seventh seed Karen Khachanov.
