Ethan Vernon (NSN Cycling) came close and almost followed last month’s Tour Down Under win with a UAE stage victory, with a second on stage 4 beaten Jonathan Milan.

“Ideally I’d have launched the sprint a bit earlier, and when I go out, I ran out of room before the line. I just surfed my way through the last few kilometers. I lots the boys a bit, but I saw INEOS come with a few guys, so I jumped in behind them and they kind of did my lead-out for me.”

Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA), winner of last year’s Tour de l’Avenir claimed his first victory, triumphing atop the Alto da Foia of the Volta ao Algarve. The talented 19-year-old Frenchman is second place overall behind Juan Ayuso.

“Joao attacked a lot but I knew had to wait for my moment. I did a good sprint, even if I was a bit lost with all the corners in the end, and it was way too big but I managed to take it so I’m really happy for me and the team.”
