Clutch from Theodore: D-Man Blasts Home Tying Goal for Team Canada

Shea Theodore tied the game for Team Canada with a clutch goal in the third period of today’s Olympic men’s hockey semifinal against Finland at Milano Cortina 2026 (February 20, 2026)! When the team needed a hero, one of the more unexpected names stepped up.

The Vegas Golden Knights defenseman blasted a long-range shot from the point (or blue line) that beat Finnish goalie Juuse Saros, knotting the score at 2-2 early/midway through the third. The goal gave Canada new life after trailing 2-1 heading into the period (following Finland’s PP opener from Bennett’s penalty and Haula’s shorthanded tally, countered by Reinhart’s PP goal in the second).

There was some concern early that Team Finland might challenge as Brad Marchand was pushed into the crease, but they chose not to risk being wrong on the challenge and taking a penalty and letting Canada get the advantage with another goal.

This is Theodore’s first goal of the tournament—he’s been solid on the blueline.

The game remains tied late in the third—Canada pushing hard for the win to advance to the gold-medal final (likely vs. USA or Slovakia).
