Nordicdots announces Model 99 G2 racquet with major upgrades

Nordicdots is a brand that is talked about more and more among tennis players, not only when it comes to apparel and accessories. Today we saw a new racquet release from them and here they try to address every small flaw from their successful debut racquet.

Nordicdots just dropped their Model 99 G2 – and it’s not just a cosmetic refresh. After listening to months of feedback from players, coaches and testers, they went back to the drawing board and reengineered their acclaimed debut racquet.

Pre-orders are open now from the official website at the price of 225 euro (Use promo code TENNISNERD15 for 15% off). The racquet ships mid-to-late March 2026. We have an early copy we are testing for our review. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube and turn on notifications to keep up to date with our releases.

What Changed?

The original Model 99 sold out in a single day when it launched in October 2024. At the time we called it “an excellent first venture into the racquet market” with “truly pro stock style feel and sound.” But Nordicdots didn’t rest there.

According to the company, the G2 addresses the most common requests and critiques: more free power, better maneuverability, improved comfort and uniform stiffness throughout the frame.

The Big Changes:

1. Tapered Beam (21.2 / 23.6 / 21.2mm)

The original Model 99 used a constant 23mm beam throughout. The G2 drops this in favor of a tapered design that’s narrower at the head and throat (21.2mm) and slightly thicker in the middle (23.6mm).

The taper enhances stability while maintaining the fast swing speed the original was known for. The narrower throat should improve comfort, especially on one-handed backhands.

2. Reengineered String Pattern (Still 16×20)

Nordicdots kept the dense 16×20 pattern but completely redesigned the mold to create what they call a cleaner response and greater precision.

The original Model 99’s progressive string pattern (denser at the top, more open in the center) was polarizing. We noticed it produced good control when you hit the top of the string bed, but some smaller, erratic responses when you hit a bit lower down.

The G2 appears to address this inconsistency while maintaining the control and connected feel that made the original special.

3. Uniform Stiffness (RA 66.5)

The original listed a “Hybrid RA 64-65” rating. The G2 specifies exactly RA 66.5 unstrung with uniform stiffness throughout the frame.

Consistent stiffness means more predictable response across the string bed. No dead spots, no unexpectedly harsh impacts.

4. Adjusted Balance (315mm vs 318mm)

The G2 is slightly more head-light at 315mm balance compared to the original’s 318mm.

Combined with the lighter head construction, this should make the racquet feel faster through the air without sacrificing stability at impact.

5. More Aerodynamic Shape

Nordicdots mentions “improvements in the overall shape, resulting in a more aerodynamic frame that moves effortlessly through the air and never feels clunky.”

The throat has been redesigned to be thinner and more comfortable to hold – a specific win for one-handed backhand players.

What stayed the same?

  • 99 sq inch head size – The Goldilocks zone between 98 and 100
  • 300g unstrung weight – Accessible but substantial
  • 16×20 string pattern – Dense enough for control without being punishing
  • Premium quality control – Every racquet measured with MetorTune device, specs listed on the box
  • ±5 grams tolerance – Better than the industry standard ±7 grams

Who’s This Racquet For?

Based on the original Model 99’s reception and the G2’s refinements, this racquet targets:

Level: Intermediate to advanced players (NTRP 4.0+)
Style: Modern baseliners who value precision over pure power
Swing Speed: Medium-fast to fast

Previously we had compared the original to “somewhere between a Blade Pro and a Yonex Ezone 98, maybe with a tad more power.” We also noted it sits in the category with frames like the Babolat Pure Strike 98 16×19, HEAD Boom Pro, and Yonex Ezone 98 – racquets for players who need more power than a Blade 98 but don’t want to go full Pure Drive.

The G2’s changes suggest it will play slightly faster and more forgiving while maintaining that controlled, connected feel.

The String Pattern Philosophy

One of the most intriguing aspects of the original Model 99 (and likely carried forward to the G2) is the progressive string pattern concept.

Traditional racquets have dense patterns in the center and more open patterns toward the edges. Nordicdots flipped this: denser at the top of the racquet, more open in the center.

The theory: Modern players hit higher in the string bed with today’s stroke mechanics. A denser pattern up top provides more control where you actually make contact.

The reality (from G1 testing): It worked brilliantly for players with fast swing speeds who naturally hit in the upper portion of the string bed. It was more erratic for players who hit lower or had inconsistent contact points.

The G2’s “reengineered mold” and promise of “cleaner response” suggests they’ve refined this concept to make it more forgiving across a wider range of contact points.

The Nordicdots Difference

What sets Nordicdots apart isn’t just the racquet, it’s also what you get when purchasing.

Quality Control You Can See

Every Model 99 G2 is measured with an Austrian-engineered MetorTune device before shipping. The actual weight, balance and swing weight are recorded and labeled on each frame.

This is more important that it might sound. Most brands ship with ±7g weight tolerance and hope for the best. Nordicdots guarantees ±5g and tells you exactly what you’re getting.

Also, if you’ve bought from Nordicdots before, they’ll match your preferred specifications on future purchases. Want that exact 298g, 314mm balance frame you loved? They’ll find you another one.

Premium Packaging

The original Model 99 came with a padded cover bag and stencil included, rare at this price point. The G2 continues this tradition and includes their TS127 Soft strings.

Comparisons

Based on the original Model 99’s positioning and the G2’s improvements, here’s how it likely compares:

vs Wilson Blade 98 16×19:
More power, slightly higher launch angle, faster through the air. Similar control and feel.

vs HEAD Boom Pro:
More predictable stringbed response, better comfort. Similar spin potential and power level.

vs Yonex Ezone 98:
More controlled, lower launch angle. Similar balance of power and precision, but different feel. The Ezone is more muted.

vs Babolat Pure Strike 98 16×19:
More comfortable (lower RA), better feel. Similar control but less demanding.

vs HEAD Gravity Pro:
More power, higher launch, easier to generate pace. Gravity Pro is pure control for advanced players.

Since this is a pre-launch announcement, here’s what we’re waiting to learn:

  1. Actual swing weight – Nordicdots doesn’t list this spec, though it’s measured on every racquet. The original G1 prototypes we tested came in around 323-327 strung.
  2. How the string pattern refinements play – Will it be more forgiving off-center while maintaining that tight, controlled feel?
  3. Real-world feel vs G1 – Is the more free power significant or subtle? How much more comfortable is the narrower throat?

It’s clear that ND has listened to feedback, made meaningful improvements and are building a proper racquet line (they’ve also released the Model 100, Model 98 Pro, and Model 98 S since the original 99 launched).

For players who value precision, consistency, and honest engineering over marketing hype, the Model 99 G2 deserves serious consideration.
