MAIN EVENT QUOTES:
Christian Medina
“Thank you to Matchroom and BXSTRS for making this event possible, I’m very, very grateful to everyone who made the event happen, to make my first defense possible here at home in Guadalajara, and I won’t let you down on Friday night. I will go into the ring and give everything, as will my opponent, and I’m just very happy to start this new period of my career with Matchroom.
“I was delighted to go there, it was a marvelous feeling to go to Japan with everything against me and, as Gatito just said, I also like challenges and we are Mexicans, that’s why we can accept the difficult challenges. It was wonderful to get the victory and now what will be great is on Friday night to have my friends and family, all the purpose that I love, to see me defend my title.
“It’s going to be a very special night to be able to defend my title here. I believe it will be a full arena, and when you have so much good in your team, I don’t think things can go badly. I’m very well prepared physically and mentally to go and defend my title successfully on Friday night, and I look forward to seeing everyone there on Friday night.
“He’s a good opponent, he’s a former World champion and there’s a reason why he was a champion. I love challenges and I wanted one for this fight, someone that would push me, I spoke to my team and I said I wanted a good opponent and I think that’s what we’ve got here. I want to face the best and ultimately, I want to unify the division, and that’s what I believe I will go on to do.”
Adrian Curiel
“I’m really emotional and happy to be back here once again and fighting for a World title, it’s a big challenge for me. I’m whiskers to be here and I’m ready both physically and mentally for this challenge, and it’s a dream and I hope to live out that dream on Friday night.
“I’m capable of going up and down the divisions, I feel that my body can do that. I’m going up three divisions here but I feel that if you asked me tomorrow to make 105lbs, there’s a possibility that I could do that. I love challenges, even though they are difficult. ‘Chispa’ Medina is a great champion, and he’s not a champion by chance, but I’m here to break limits and I enjoy breaking limits, and I want to go on and be crowned World champion once again this Friday.
“He knows how to manage the pressure as he is a great champion so he will take that on his shoulders pretty well. I’m just focusing on what I do and looking to pressure him, but I don’t think he will feel the pressure. We’re both here for a reason, we have both become champions because we can both manage that pressure.
“It would mean a great deal to me to win. I know what it’s like to be a World champion, and I lost my title in possibly what you could say is the most ugly way. It was a painful moment, very difficult, but I understand that in this sport there are highs and lows, you have to learn to overcome that.”
