The trade freeze has lifted, and the list of sellers could start to grow
Sekeres and Price: The NHL trade deadline is a week this upcoming Friday, and the trade freeze has lifted. The list of sellers could be growing.
Matt Sekeres: “Meanwhile, the NHL roster freeze lifts night, and it sounds like the Canucks are going to have a lot of company here amongst the sellers, Blake.
Reports since the games began, that St. Louis and Nashville are going to be aggressive sellers. Calgary Flames are already a declared seller. We know the New York Rangers are retooling. They put out another letter.
And we’ll see what Winnipeg, Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, choose to do. And there’s some other teams there too, Jersey, Ottawa, who might be sellers when it’s all said and done on March 6th. days from the lifting of this roster freeze until the NHL trade deadline. So it’s a short sprint.”
NHL Rumors: Does Elias Pettersson Even Make Sense for the Kings and Canucks
The Calgary Flames will listen on MacKenzie Weegar, but there is no guarantee that he’s traded
Flames Nation: Darren Dreger on the Calgary Flames, and if the Flames will trade defenseman MacKenzie Weegar before the March 6th NHL trade deadline.
Dean Molberg: “Mackenzie Weegar’s name is now seemingly more and more brought up. The Ottawa Senators are kind of rumored as a team. It was like Andersson or Weegar, one or the other, we’re probably going to go. Anderson is gone. Is, Is there a potential that Weegar could also be on the move?
Dreger: “Potential, but I don’t think that it’s front-burner stuff. You know, Ottawa. Yes, I’ve read the Bruce Garrioch speculation, and I’m not shooting it down. I think that Steve Staios and the Ottawa Senators would, would look at the contract player would term, and go, ‘Okay, well, that makes sense for us, and our group.’
The other team, and I think I’ve mentioned it on the show before, is the Detroit Red Wings. So that’s what it’s going to take, is a team like that who isn’t interested in the rental market, who need that type of defenseman, who value him and, and have whatever the pieces are that are going to coerce Conroy and the Calgary Flames to make that trade.
NHL Rumors: What’s Going on with the Calgary Flames?
But every time I ask about MacKenzie Weegar, it’s not a hard ‘No.’ Calgary is not in a position where they can do that. They’ve got to listen to just about everything. But I still think it’s a little too early to say that, yes, he is 100% in play. I think it’s more of a listening and maybe projecting based on other conversations that Conroy is having about other players.”
