Virat Kohli hasn’t been himself while opening for India in the T20 World Cup 2024. The star batter gave up his regular third spot and has struggled with the new role. In eight games, he’s put up 73 runs and only batted out of the powerplay once.
Meanwhile, former England spinner Monty Panesar has boldly predicted that the right-handed batter will score a century in the grand finale against South Africa in Barbados.
“India will win the T20 World Cup final, and Virat Kohli will score 100,” said Panesar as quoted by The Times of India.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma backed Virat Kohli. After the 68-run win against England in the second semi-final, Sharma said that Kohli’s form isn’t worrying since he’s a big-game player and is saving his best for the final.
“He (Kohli) is a quality player. Any player can go through that. We do understand his class, and we do understand his importance in all these big games. Form is never a problem. When you’ve played cricket for 15 years, form is never a problem. He’s looking good, the intent is there, and he’s probably saving for the final. Absolutely (backing Kohli for the final),” Rohit had said after the semifinal win.
Meanwhile, batters like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and captain Rohit Sharma are making sure the team doesn’t feel the impact of Virat Kohli’s form, as they have all been in excellent touch and performing brilliantly with the bat.
