This year has been quite unpredictable for Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper-batsman was not included in the BCCI’s main contracts, making it seem like he had no chance of returning to the Indian cricket team. However, with Kishan now being part of the Duleep Trophy team, it appears that the BCCI is ready to give him another opportunity to prove himself and earn a spot on the national team. Kishan performed very well in the Buchi Babu tournament, scoring a brilliant century in the first match for Jharkhand. Before the Test series against Bangladesh, former Pakistan cricket star Basit Ali commented that Kishan should not be too hopeful about making a comeback to the Indian team and should instead focus on the IPL.
“Ishan Kishan should concentrate on the IPL now because he won’t have a chance to return to the Indian team until the series against Australia. In fact, there’s no chance until the Champions Trophy. We’ll have to wait and see what happens after that,” Basit Ali mentioned on his YouTube channel.
Basit Ali mentioned that India will feel the absence of Cheteshwar Pujara when they face Australia in a series of five matches in November. The ex-Pakistani cricketer pointed out that even if India wins the series, they will still miss Pujara because of his past performances and current form.
He continued, “Whether the series ends 5-0, 4-1, 3-2, or 2-2, India will miss Cheteshwar Pujara. He is the kind of player who can wear down the bowlers and give the other batsman a chance to score runs.”
Pujara was crucial for India’s victory in the 2021-22 Test series in Australia, where he was the second highest run scorer. But he was dropped from the team after a few matches where he didn’t score many runs.
