The Winnipeg Jets announced this morning that defenceman Josh Morrissey has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Feb. 12, and defenceman Kale Clague has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose.
TRANSACTIONS: The #NHLJets have recalled D – Kale Clague from the Manitoba Moose (AHL). The Jets have also placed D – Josh Morrissey on injured reserve retroactive to Feb. 12.
It was already confirmed on Monday that Morrissey will miss Wednesday’s game in Vancouver against the Canucks. The Olympians were flying from Italy to Miami due to weather in the U.S. northeast, so Morrissey has yet to be evaluated by Winnipeg’s doctors to determine the exact severity of the injury. All that’s known at this point is that it’s an upper-body injury.
As a result, the Jets placed Morrissey on IR retroactive to Feb. 12, the date he suffered the injury in his first game at the Olympics while representing Canada.
Clague, 27, leads Manitoba defencemen in both goals and assists (8G, 13A) and sits fifth in points on the Jets’ AHL affiliate with 21 points in 44 games.
The former Brandon Wheat King is the third defenceman currently recalled to the Jets, joining Elias Salomonsson and Ville Heinola.
Clague was drafted 51st overall in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by Los Angeles.
