Sinclaire Johnson is focused on USATF Indoors: Four Questions with the American record holder for the Mile!

Sinclaire Johnson is the 2022 USATF Outdoor 1500m champion, and she has represented the U.S. at the World Athletics Championships three times outdoors and once indoors. She set an American mile record of 4:16.32 last July and an American road mile record of 4:21.66 in December, and she holds a 1500m personal best of 3:56.75.

Sinclaire Johnson is sponsored by HOKA and is coached by her fiance, Craig Nowak.

Special thanks to Jeff Benjamin for this interview, number 3 in his series of USATF Previews.

1) How’s your training coming along & how happy are you so far with your season?

Sinclaire Johnson:  “Training has been going well! I am in a good spot going into this next weekend. I have been pretty pleased with my indoor performances thus far— Millrose was the only race I wasn’t too happy with, but it made us tweak things in training we needed to.”

Sinclaire Johnson: “Sure! I think the outdoor season this year is whatever you want to make of it. For me, that looks like improving on both my 800m & 1500m PRs and trying to qualify for the world ultimate championships!”

3) As a previous visitor, how do you like the Ocean Breeze facility?

Sinclaire Johnson: “I like Ocean Breeze! It has a nice running path outside to warm up, and the track feels pretty quick.”

4) What event are you going to compete in, and do you have any pre-planned strategy?

Sinclaire Johnson:  “I’ll be in the 1500m, and I do have a strategy, but I’d be a fool to let that be known to everyone else before the race, haha!!”
