Nathan Lyon reveals his retirement plans

Australian cricketer Nathan Lyon has recently talked about his plans for when he stops playing. There were rumors that Lyon might end his international cricket career after the 2024-25 Ashes series. Many people believed the 36-year-old would retire like the famous Shane Warne, who stopped playing after the last Ashes Test in 2007.

However, Lyon dismissed these rumors during a conversation with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns and Cricket Australia chairman Mike Baird at the Sydney Cricket Ground on August 18.

The government of New South Wales and Cricket Australia have made a deal for seven years. In this agreement, Mike Baird has promised to collect many millions of dollars to help support cricket in local communities across the country. The Cricket Australia team also wants to make the famous Sydney Test, which is the final game of the Ashes summer, even better.

When talking to people, Nathan Lyon was asked if he would stop playing cricket for Australia after his last game at the Sydney Cricket Ground, just like Shane Warne did. Shane Warne played 145 times for Australia wearing the white uniform and took 708 wickets. He is the second best at taking wickets in the longest type of cricket game.

Nathan Lyon has already participated in 129 Test matches throughout his career and appears confident about playing for several more years. Regarding the rumors about him retiring after the Ashes series in Australia, the spin bowler mentioned, “It’s too early,” as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Lyon discussed his recent experience playing County Cricket for Lancashire over the past few months. This experience also allowed him to observe how the English players were preparing for the upcoming Ashes series.

“I really liked being in the Lancashire team room in England, hearing the players discuss the Ashes, their plans, and how they aim to win there. I had some great conversations with Tom Hartley about various methods he used with different players, which I found quite interesting,” Lyon said.

Australia has been very strong in the last three Ashes series played in their country. The last time England won a Test match in Australia was in 2011. Australia’s next major event is hosting India for a five-match Test series, starting on November 22 in Perth.
