Brady Tkachuk Not Amused by White House AI Video Poking Fun at Canada

Brady Tkachuk and Team USA have been in the spotlight for a bevy of reasons over the last five days. Winning Gold at the Winter Olympics for the first time since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” was just the start, and there’s been plenty to follow in the aftermath.

Partying, visiting President Donald Trump, and much more—but on Thursday, a viral video that the White House posted on TikTok soon after the American win came to the forefront

That video began with an AI-edited clip of Tkachuk supposedly lipping off about Canada, in which he says: “They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple syrup-eating ***** a lesson.”

With Tkachuk back in Ottawa, ready to resume a critical home stretch of the season with the Senators, he was asked about the video, to which he assured he wasn’t too fond of it.

Tkachuk said:

“Well, it’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice, not my lips moving. I’m not in control of any of those accounts. I know that those words would never come out of my mouth. So, I can’t do anything about it.

It’s not my voice. It’s not what I was saying. I would never say that. That’s not who I am, so I guess I don’t like that video because that would never come out of my mouth, and never had that thought,”

The 26-year-old Tkachuk had a solid Olympic tournament, producing five points (three goals, two assists) in six games en route to winning a Gold Medal.

As with Auston Matthews, captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tkachuk, as captain of the Senators, is in a very tough spot, no matter what he says, and they, in particular, have had to face it head-on upon returning to their home NHL cities.

All of the off-ice antics are in the headlines right now, but Tkachuk especially is going to have to turn the page. Ottawa faces a steep uphill climb just to get back into the playoff picture, and after making the postseason for the first time with this core group last year, missing it altogether the following year will not sit well with the organization or the fan base.
