Tomorrow, the first game in the Maybelline Women’s Lacrosse League’s Championship Series takes place at the same place it was a year ago, the St. James Complex in Springfield, Va.
The same four teams that contested last year’s Sixes tournament will participate; the New York Charging, California Palms, Maryland Charm, and defending champion Boston Guard.
The four teams will be stocked with many of the best players in the craft, including world tournament winners like Charlotte North, Izzy Scane, Ellie Masera, and Ally Mastroianni.
But the teams will look a little different for the duration of the WLL’s indoor series. All four teams will sport new kits this year: California, which wore a white top last year, will have a fuschia jersey this year. Maryland switches from red to gold. Boston goes from navy to white, and New York will go from light blue to dark blue.
What I see here isn’t just a team wearing a single color all year, however. I foresee a time when all teams in a future WLL are going to have home and road jerseys like their Premier Lacrosse League bretheren.
So, if you’re tuning in tomorrow, don’t adjust your TV set. The teams will look a little different in both haberdashery and personnel. And there will certainly be changes when the teams move outside in May.
