Carlos Alcaraz has been in scintillating form at the start of this year, winning 12 consecutive matches across two events.
Alcaraz completed the Grand Slam quartet at the start of this month after defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final.
The Spaniard then immediately withdrew from the Rotterdam Open before continuing his dominance at the Qatar Open, where he beat Arthur Fils in the final.
Alcaraz will now look ahead to the ‘sunshine swing’ in America before returning to Europe for the clay-court season.
The 22-year-old’s next big goal will be winning a third consecutive French Open title, and he could boost his chances by making one important decision.
Carlos Alcaraz should withdraw from an event before the French Open if he begins to feel fatigued
With there being five significant ATP events before the French Open starts in May, Alcaraz should make a wise decision and withdraw from one of the warm-up events – if he feels fatigued at any point.
The clay-court swing is a long and strenuous period of the calendar: tournaments arrive thick and fast, and players compete on a surface that offers little relief to the body.
Alcaraz has frequently criticised the ATP schedule, while also demonstrating that he is happy to miss mandatory Masters 1000 events to recover from physical issues, even if it means he will miss out on the ATP Tour’s bonus pool.
This was evident at the last two Canadian Open events. Alcaraz did not play in either event, citing fatigue and small muscle issues.
Carlos Alcaraz’s projected schedule
- Indian Wells: March 4-15
- Miami: March 18-29
- Monte-Carlo: April 6-12
- Barcelona: April 13-19
- Madrid: April 22 – May 3
- Rome: May 6-17
- French Open: May 24 – June 7
Therefore, if Alcaraz does feel fatigued during the long clay-court season, he should miss an event in order to best recover in time for the French Open.
If Alcaraz does miss an event, his best option may be the Monte-Carlo Masters, which is a non-mandatory event.
However, Alcaraz won the 2025 event, meaning he would sacrifice 1000 ATP ranking points.
Of course, there is extra motivation for the Spaniard to be fully prepared for Roland Garros: that being the opportunity to prevent Jannik Sinner from completing the ‘Career Grand Slam.’
Carlos Alcaraz’s post-match speech after winning the 2025 French Open
Carlos Alcaraz produced one of the most spectacular comebacks in tennis history to win the 2025 French Open.
The Spaniard saved three consecutive championship points in the fourth set before defeating Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
After winning the marathon final, Alcaraz said: “Jannik, it’s amazing the level you reach.
“To everyone who came from Murcia to support me, thank you. This trophy is yours also. Paris, you have been important support for me since the first practice in the first round, I can’t thank you enough. You will always be in my heart.

Tim Henman, speaking on TNT Sports, described the match as one of the best he had ever seen.
When you’ve got the top two going head to head, it doesn’t always live up to the hype, but that is one of the best, one of the greatest matches I’ve ever seen,” said Henman.
“And to have it in a grand slam final is something special. Spare a thought for Jannik Sinner. He played some amazing tennis and got oh so close.”
