On Saturday night at Arena CDMX, a rising Mexican prospect steps into the biggest moment of his career.
David Martinez will face former title challenger Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC Mexico City, drawing the biggest fight of his career that could accelerate his ascent in the bantamweight division.
Martinez (13-1) expects an aggressive battle with Chito when the cage door closes. Both fighters are known for pushing the pace and forcing exchanges. Rather than shy away from that kind of fight, he believes it plays directly into his strengths.
“I really like putting pressure on opponents. He does that as well, but when someone pressures me, I become even more dangerous,” Martinez told reporters on Wednesday.
“I start at 100%, 120% in the second, and 130% in the third.”
“I’m grateful for the love from the fans who support me on social media. I think they like my style, and I still have a lot to show them,” he said.
“Thank you to those who support me, that help me, and encourage me. They’re a big part of why I’m here.”
