Putting together their most complete effort of the season, Terriers scored twice in the opening frame and held of #10/11 BC, 3-1, at Agganis Arena on Senior Night, picking up three critical points in the Hockey East race.
Ryder Ritchie and Cole Eiserman produced the early goals and with the Eagles, trailing 2-1 and pressing for an equalizer, Jack Harvey sealed the win with an empty-net score. Mikhail Yegorov led a strong defensive performance by BU, stopping 24 of 25 shots.
With the win BU finds itself tied for sixth in the Hockey East standings with Northeastern. Both teams have two games remaining. The Terriers have an outside shot at finishing fourth but quite a few stars would have to align.
“It’s a big win for us,” said Coach Jay Pandolfo. “It’s great to see us play that way. Our guys understand if they play a certain way, what we’re capable of. I thought tonight we played very well from the goaltender on out.”

Just like the two previous BU-BC games, which the Eagles won, BU came out fast and aggressive, dominating shots (19-4) and O-zone possession in the opening period. However this time, the Terriers were rewarded.
After several BU grade A chances were foiled, the Terriers scored on the rush. Tynan Lawrence controlled a loose puck in the neutral zone and sent Jack Murtagh and Ritchie away on a 2-on-1. The BC defender closed on Murtagh, who passed to Ritchie for a one-time wrister past goalie Louka Cloutier. It was his seventh goal.

Late in the period, BU put a flurry of shots on goal. Harvey’s attempt from just outside the crease and one by Kamil Bednarik from the slot were defended. The rebound went to Cole Hutson, who fanned on a passing attempt, then backhanded the puck to Eiserman for a one-time from his office, beating Cloutier, who had lost his stick. Goal #14 for the sophomore.

BU ended the period up by two goal, but facing a penalty kill to open the second period due to a Gavin McCarthy roughing call.
Terriers killed that man-advantage and then Yegorov made one of his best stops when Landan Resendes got free behind the BU defense.
A slash by Mick Frechette put BC back on the power play and they quickly converted. Dean Letourneau was set up in the slot and ripped a shot past Yegorov, cutting the Terriers’ lead in half.

A third BC power play and two for the Terriers produced no further scoring and the period ended with BU’s 2-1 lead intact. BU held the Eagles to just four even-strength in the period along with five on the three power plays.
That nearly changed early in the third period when a Terrier turnover in the defensive zone became a 3-on-1. Frechette’s diving play broke up the grade A chance to keep BU on top.
After Yegorov stymied James Hagens‘ blast from the left circle with seven minutes remaining, BU concluded a long O-zone possession with an apparent goal by Jonathan Morello but it was disallowed due to goaltender interference.
With Cloutier pulled for an extra attacker, Eiserman controlled the puck deep in the BC zone, attracted a crowd of defenders and calmly backhanded a pass to Harvey for an easy finish for his eleventh goal. Bednarik picked up the second assist.
The team’s complete the series Saturday at Conte Forum in a 7 p.m. start. BU will look to duplicate Friday’s effort and build momentum for the playoffs.
“We’re just looking for the effort for 60 minutes and
playing the same way for 60 minutes,” Pandolfo said. That’s what we have to do. We just want to
see a solid effort again tomorrow night.”
