Jon Jones is claiming he’s in negotiations with UFC about possibly competing on the White House card.
Jones has been pounding the table for a spot at the historic event, but he has been met with some hesitancy. UFC CEO Dana White publicly said that it’s difficult for him to trust “Bones” in such a spot. Given that Jones is an American who is widely regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, most agree that a UFC White House spot makes sense for “Bones.”
Speaking to fans at “The Brook,” Jones revealed that he is in discussions with UFC about potentially fighting at the White House.
“I’m in negotiations with the UFC about this White House thing as well,” Jones said. “Very, very proud American and I cannot wait to represent one more time. So, we’ll see what happens.”
It’s quite the switch-up from Jones’ comments during Super Bowl LX weekend. Jones told Helen Yee that the possibility of staying retired is real and he might prioritize leaving combat sports at the right time.
“I think I could be done,” Jones said. “I’m young enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. I am healthy enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world, but I’ve always been used to competing with the best in the world. It’s a really high standard to uphold. So, maybe it’s just about doing it, doing it right, and getting out at a really good time.”
Jones also mentioned once speaking to a veteran fighter who couldn’t remember his own birthday. “Bones” said he wants to end his pro MMA career with his health intact, which is why if he does have another fight, it’ll likely be his last. There’s also the fact that Jones recently mentioned he has arthritis in his left hip.
