Cody Rhodes may not have won the Elimination Chamber, but that isn’t stopping him from getting a title shot.
During the premium live event, Rhodes lost to Randy Orton after Drew McIntyre once again showed up to cause trouble. The reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion attacked Rhodes when it was just he and Orton left in the Chamber. Although Orton and Rhodes got rid of McIntyre, Orton capitalized on the moment to hit Rhodes with an RKO and win the match.
After the show ended, WWE cameras caught up with McIntyre, who was giddy about what had happened. However, Nick Aldis was not. Backstage, Aldis and McIntyre got face-to-face, and Aldis had finally had enough. During the post-event show, Aldis interrupted things and had some consequences for McIntyre.
He told McIntyre he had warned him repeatedly about interfering and to let things play out fairly. Since McIntyre couldn’t, Aldis said that on Friday, at SmackDown, he will have to put the title up against Rhodes. Even though Rhodes had seemingly lost his chance to get another shot, Aldis didn’t care, and said the belt would be on the line.
After announcing the match, McIntyre came storming down to the conference area, and couldn’t believe what he had heard. Both men had to be separated as McIntyre said it was “BS,” and that he wouldn’t be fighting “the golden boy.”
