NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Hurricanes

Will the New Jersey Devils test the market for Dougie Hamilton again before the deadline? Would a former team be interested?

Flames Nation: Darren Dreger on New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton and if he could be moved.

“So I checked on Dougie Hamilton this morning, and I’m told that there’s nothing new. And I asked, ‘okay, well, is there a better chance now we’re a week outside the deadline that he doesn’t get moved?’ And the response that I got from an impeccable source was, ‘Well, you never say never.’ which I understand is a cliche, but there isn’t an appetite yet to push him out, right?

So teams know, yeah, Tom Fitzgerald is open to conversation and listening to offers, but there has been nothing yet that moves the needle. You know, again, we’re a week out. Maybe things change.

NHL Rumors: Lots of Change Heading Vancouver’s Way

A dozen different agents, especially, have told me that, okay, we might see some stuff here. We’ve seen a couple of transactions to this point, but they felt like teams needed two, three games, maybe get to the weekend, and then maybe there’s more definition in the standings between the buyers and the sellers.

And maybe the sellers to that point go, ‘Okay, well, I’ve asked for an exorbitant return on player ‘X’, and I haven’t gotten so I’m going to need to soften, because I don’t want to get to Thursday night or Friday morning and then have to get into a chaotic situation. And so maybe that starts to turn a little bit as early as Sunday or Monday.

The Sheet with Jeff Marek: Greg Wyshynski and Jeff Marek wonder if New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton will get traded.

Wyshynski: “Last name I wanted to mention is Dougie Hamilton. I mean, listen, the Devil, the Devil season is in the trash can at this point. They tried to trade Dougie. I mean, they’ve been trying to trade Dougie. Then they couldn’t trade Dougie because Luke Hughes got hurt. Now, Luke Hughes is coming back this Saturday, most likely (he did). Do you think Dougie gets moved before next Friday?”

Marek: “I would think that Tom Fitzgerald will certainly try. Do they actually get it over the finish line? Don’t know. Don’t know. If you look how, if you’re looking for, if you’re looking for, like, a strong shooting option from the point, because he’s, he still has those sweet, sweet one timers from the point. Then Dougie Hamilton. With retention, Greg?”

Wyshynski: “Oh, come on. It’s like, that’s, that’s guaranteed, that there’s gonna be retention.”

Marek: “With retention?”

Wyshynski: “I think, I think it’s like 50-50 they trade Dougie. And I wonder, what about Carolina? What about a reunion in Carolina for Dougie?”

Marek: “It’s not bad. You know how that organization feels, and the types of defensemen that they acquire, you have to be (a) a good skater.  And if you can think the game well, if you play on the Carolina Hurricanes, you have to be able to think and think fast.”

NHL Rumors: The Florida Panthers, and Sergei Bobrovsky

Wyshynski: “Yeah.”

Marek: “And it’s a challenging way to play.”

Wyshynski: “Dougie’s a thinker. He goes he goes to museums. You know that.”

Marek: “He goes to museums.”
