The other day, the Dutch Baseball Hangout reported about the possibility that baseball in Rimini was to end. Since Google Translate doesn’t translate Italian all that well, there was a misunderstanding on my side about this. The reality will be explained below.
New Rimini, which was built on the ashes of the bankrupt Rimini Pirates, still exists. But the team hasn’t subscribed to the 2026 Serie A season. Instead the club will likely step down to the Serie C and develop youth teams. So baseball in Rimini will continue but at a much lower level.

Even though Rimini Pirates was bankrupt, the club still exists officially but without any players or without a registration to a championship. Its former owner/chairman, Mr. Esposito (on the left), created a pizza restaurant in the ballpark and all the operating costs were pushed off to the ballpark. This was too much to bear for the club eventually.
Currently, Esposito is still running the pizzeria at the ballpark. The municipality of Rimini, with the backup of a court decision, is now trying to get control of the ballpark. In an attempt to get rid of the pizzeria, it has revoked all working permits of that restaurant. So this fight about the 400,000 Euro has only to do with the old club and its former owner/chairman. New Rimini will stay out of harm’s way.
It remains to be seen if New Rimini will play in the ballpark. As the club is the result of a merger/cooperation of a variety of clubs from Rimini and surrounding towns, (Falcons Torre Pedrera, Junior Rimini, Nuova Delfini Riccione, Piranhas Valmarecchia, and Rimini 86) there will be some diamond be available to house the club.
My apologies for the misunderstanding, but this is how it is.
