EIHL Wednesday: Giants and Blaze playing for place in Challenge Cup Final

Will it be a second straight Challenge Cup Final for the Giants, and a fourth in five years, or will the Blaze reach the final for the first time since 2006? We will find out from 7pm this evening at SSE Arena Belfast.

The Blaze arrive in Belfast with a one-goal lead from the first leg, which they won 3-2 just under a month ago. The second leg was scheduled to take place a fortnight ago but was postponed after the Blaze’s flights to Belfast were cancelled.

The Giants boast an impressive home record. In league play this season, they have yet to lose in regulation, going 16-2-2-0 so far. Their only home defeat in regulation this season to EIHL opposition came on opening night against Dundee Stars in the Challenge Cup. However, they did lose to the Blaze the last time Coventry visited, falling 4-3 in overtime. The previous meeting between the sides in Belfast was also decided beyond regulation, with the Giants winning 4-3 on penalty shots. Both of those games were tied after 60 minutes, which is all the Blaze require tonight to advance.

Coventry have lost two of their last three road games, but prior to that had been unbeaten away from home since 31 December. Their last three visits to SSE Arena Belfast have all been tied through regulation, while their last regulation win in Belfast came in October 2024. Of the last six games in Belfast decided in regulation, the Giants have won five.
