A massive leak reveals the first details about the future of God of War, which will apparently expand the universe in a completely unexpected way.
Kratos and God of War belong together like currywurst and fries. But what would you say if the next game in the universe of the once-angry Spartan took a completely new direction?
A recent leak now points to exactly that and suggests that you should prepare yourself for some serious changes.
A new franchise in a familiar universe
The rumor mill is in full swing, and the trigger is the LinkedIn profile of a former senior writer at Sony Santa Monica. He worked at the studio from 2020 to the end of 2025 and revealed some very exciting details in his resume.
According to the profile – which has since been hastily deleted but preserved for posterity in the form of screenshots – he helped shape the narrative vision for a “new franchise within the God of War universe.”
There was explicit mention of developing new characters, fresh storylines, and original lore to expand the highly acclaimed brand. The developer spoke of designing long-term strategies for the brand and interweaving narrative content directly with gameplay to create emotionally gripping experiences.
Renowned industry insider Jason Schreier added fuel to the fire: On ResetEra, he commented on the discovery by saying that what he had written some time ago was now obvious: ”It may not be a new IP, but it could feel like one.”
On Sunday, the extremely reliable insider NateTheHate dropped the bombshell: The next God of War will reportedly not continue with Kratos or Atreus, but with Faye – Atreus’ mother and Kratos’ second wife.
Here’s what I have heard:
Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe & the lead character will be Faye. Gameplay is said to differ from the Norse God of War games with more of a focus on action.
Current plan: Reveal this year/release first half 2027 – barring any delay

According to the insider, the game will be even more action-packed than its two direct predecessors. And if we actually slip into the role of Faye, this naturally raises exciting questions about the timeline.
Since Faye dies before the events of God of War, everything points to a genuine prequel. Unless Sony decides on a daring resurrection story, which would be a pretty stupid idea given the emotional impact of her death.
Nordic mythology instead of Egypt?
The choice of Faye as the protagonist is also surprising because many fans were actually expecting a change in the pantheon. Just recently, data miners discovered a hidden cutscene in the God of War Ragnarök files that strongly hinted at Egypt as the next setting.
Rumors were also circulating about Kratos wielding an Egyptian khopesh sword—more on that in the link box above. However, if Faye is to be the new main character, it’s very likely that we’ll be staying in Norse mythology for a while longer to experience her backstory in Midgard.
