Yorkshire’s tour to Abu Dhabi cancelled

Yorkshire men’s pre-season tour, which was due to start on Saturday with the squad flying out to the UAE, has been cancelled.

Due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the men will now head to Desert Springs in Spain on Sunday for ten days.

A cohort of players delayed in returning from Australia from the training camp in Melbourne, will join up with the squad later next week.

Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, said. “Given the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the safety of all our players and staff is of paramount importance to us. As a result of this, we’ve worked swiftly to rearrange our plans, and we’re pleased to have turned this alternative provision around in such a short space of time.

“We’ve been really pleased with the workloads and the level of cricket shown by our players over the winter, and the camp in Desert Springs allows us a great opportunity to build on this further.

“It will also give the players an opportunity to collectively come together for the first time this winter and will ensure they have enough preparation time ahead of the start of the season next month.”

James Wharton and Matthew Revis, who were both in the UAE with the England Lions for the curtailed series with Pakistan Shaheens have both now returned to the UK with the rest of the England squad.

Further details on the planned tour for Yorkshire Women to Abu Dhabi will be released in due course.
