The Cyclists’ Alliance (TCA), which represents riders in the professional women’s peloton, put out a call for support on Wednesday, acknowledging that it “is facing a critical funding shortfall and asking its supporters to donate to a GoFundMe campaign.”

The organization said that situation, despite financial backing from various sponsors over the years, is dire enough that “without immediate financial support, The Cyclists’ Alliance will be forced to cease operations.”

TCA was founded in 2017 as a union to represent pro women, notably distinct from the Cyclistes Professionnels Associés (CPA), the sole labor organization representing the men’s peloton. Although the CPA does have a women’s division – the only women’s union officially recognized by the UCI – TCA works separately, and indeed that independence is central to its purpose.

Since its inception, the union has advocated for the women’s peloton in a variety of areas. As its call for support points out, along the way, it has “helped drive progress on minimum salaries, maternity rights, and improved working conditions across the sport” in addition to offering mentoring and legal advice and conducting annual surveys to provide a fuller understanding of the opinions, circumstances, and demographics of the peloton each year.
