The Warriors return to Lawler Arena tonight to close out the regular season against UMass Lowell.
Merrimack skates into the finale with something tangible on the line. The Warriors can clinch home ice in the opening round of the Hockey East playoffs. The math is simple. One point tonight is all the Warriors need to secure at least the conference’s final home-ice position.
Merrimack currently holds a five-point cushion over New Hampshire for that last spot. The Wildcats do have two games in hand, but a single point by the Warriors tonight would push the lead to six. At that point, Merrimack would clinch the position by virtue of the league’s tiebreaker — even if New Hampshire were to win its final two games in regulation.
