In a candid conversation at the CEAT Cricket Awards 2024, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee revealed his admiration for Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni.
Tim Southee expresses admiration for Indian icon
Expressing a desire to experience the life of the former Indian captain, Southee stated, “I would want to swap my life for a day with MS Dhoni. I would love to have a day in his shoes to see what it is like to be MS Dhoni.”
Southee’s admiration for Dhoni is rooted in the latter’s exceptional leadership qualities, calm demeanour under pressure, and his ability to perform consistently at the highest level. Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot and his ability to finish matches have earned him a cult-like following worldwide.
“Dhoni is a phenomenal cricketer and a great leader. His ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations is something I admire. I’d love to know what goes through his mind in those moments,” Southee added.

Legend’s IPL future uncertain
While Southee expressed his desire to experience Dhoni’s life, the Indian cricket legend’s future remains uncertain. Speculations have been rife about Dhoni’s potential return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. While the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management has not made an official announcement, fans are eagerly awaiting his decision.
Dhoni, who led CSK to their fifth IPL title in 2023, has been a vital part of the franchise since its inception. His experience and leadership have been instrumental in CSK’s success over the years.
However, at the age of 42, Dhoni has hinted that the 2023 IPL could be his last. While fans hope for a change of heart, the final decision ultimately rests with the legendary cricketer himself.
As the cricketing world eagerly awaits Dhoni’s decision, Southee’s admiration for the Indian icon serves as a reminder of the immense impact that Dhoni has had on the sport. Whether or not Dhoni returns to the IPL, his legacy as one of the greatest cricketers of all time is secure.
