Formula 2 returned for its first qualifying session with DAMS Lucas Oil’s Dino Beganovic securing pole position, followed by Rodin Motorsport’s Martinius Stenshorne and teammate Alex Dunne.
Flying Laps for a Fleeting Session
Drivers began setting lap times as the green flag appeared. Pole-sitter Beganovic and Joshua Dürksen were separated by just 0.094 seconds at the top of the timesheets.
Campos Racing’s Nikola Tsolov then moved up to first place. The Formula 3 vice champion set the benchmark with a lap time of 1:29.381.
Startling Qualifying for Boya
PREMA Racing’s Mari Boya’s qualifying came to an abrupt end. The Aston Martin junior hit the barriers on the exit of Turn 12, bringing out the first red flag of the session.
Green Flags All Around
With 20 minutes left in the session, green flags waved once the track was cleared. Tsolov, Stenshorne, and Camara were among the drivers who took advantage of the clear track.
Trouble for Minì
Issues forced MP Motorsport to work on Gabriele Minì’s car. The Italian driver who came fastest in practice, remained in the pits, preventing him from setting competitive lap times as the session progressed.
The Alpine car then came to a stop on track within a lap, bringing out another red flag with less than six minutes remaining on the timer.
The Final Rundown
The green light appeared in the pit lane with three minutes remaining in the session as drivers pushed to set a lap time. With provisional pole changing hands three times in the dying seconds, Beganovic produced the final improvement to claim top spot for DAMS with a 1:28.695.
