BUCCANEERS BUSINESS LUNCH HUGELY SUCCESSFUL
BUCCANEERS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB’S Business Lunch, sponsored by Westland Horticulture, attracted hundreds from the business, commercial, financial and sporting worlds to Athlone’s Sheraton Hotel.

The recently retired Munster, Ireland and British & Irish Lions captain Peter O’Mahony proved an astute choice of key speaker for the eighth hosting of this event ensuring the full house heard interesting and entertaining views from the legendary player. In this regard, he benefitted from the input of MC Adrian Barry, the Athlonian renowned for ‘Off The Ball’ on Newstalk. In the three-quarters of an hour chat O’Mahony spoke of famous matches and players in his professional career that spanned 20 seasons. He was fortunate to enjoy a more-or-less injury free career and, even though it was such a lengthy one, it was interesting to hear him say that he always felt tension prior to matches. One remarkable statistic that proved that the life of a high profile professional sportsman is not all glamour was that he regularly spent 150 nights a season in hotels and that could rise to 250 in World Cup or Lions tour years!

Club President Eoin Reid welcomed all who attended in support of Buccaneers RFC and he expressed immense gratitude on behalf of the club for the contribution of Peter and Adrian. Eoin was especially grateful to the event sponsors Edward Conroy and Westland Horticulture whose patronage was vital to the afternoon’s success. He thanked Garrett McGuinness and staff at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel for the first-class meal and service and to The Bounty Bar & Venue who sponsored the wine. Eoin particularly noted the efforts and enterprise of the event’s organising team especially Eamonn Fagan and Geraldine Kenny on producing another interesting and smartly run occasion.

Finally, the audience prize for a pair of coveted tickets to Ireland’s Six Nations match against Scotland plus two nights B&B with dinner at Dublin’s Hyatt Centric Hotel was won by Mike McSweeney while Shay Ellis won a €500 voucher for Westland garden products.
