Why USA Boxing Withdrew Support For Ali Revival Act

The national governing body for amateur boxing, USA Boxing, has withdrawn support for The Muhammad Ali American Revival Act according to a letter obtained by Boxing Social.

The bipartisan bill would reshape the boxing landscape in the United States, and is critical for what plans the TKO Group and Dana White-backed Zuffa Boxing have within the sport.

According to a UFC source Boxing Social spoke to, the act would provide fighters with greater “opportunities” not only promotionally, but in health and safety. However, sources Boxing Social editor Alan Dawson spoke to last year suggested it represents little more than “a power grab” with Zuffa looking to do to boxing, what UFC did within mixed martial arts.

US representatives Brian Jack, a Republican, and Sharice Davids, a Democrat, are the political sponsors and the bill is backed by Muhammad Ali’s widow Lonnie Ali, and boxing icon Mike Tyson — a friend of White’s.

USA Boxing had initially backed the bill, yet a letter signed by the organization’s president, Tyson Lee, and CEO, Mike McAtee, suggests leadership feels compelled to disown it.

“The January 18, 2026, correspondence did not reflect a formally adopted Board position at the time of submission and was not authorized by a vote of the Board,” the letter says.

“[It] does not represent an official position of USA Boxing.”

It finished: “The Board hereby withdraws that letter,” adding: “USA Boxing will not take a position on H.R. 4624.”

The letter, dated February 27, suggests the original support may have been issued prematurely, before the organization’s board had formally voted on the matter.

Leadership stated that earlier correspondence was submitted without a board-approved position in place, prompting directors to review the situation and distance the governing body from that message, thus neutralizing USA Boxing’s previously reported backing of the legislation.

Congress continues to consider the bill.
