Commanders News Re-Signs Treylon Burks
The Washington Commanders re-signed wide receiver Treylon Burks to a one-year deal with a maximum value of $4 million on Friday, keeping him off the open market days before the new league year begins, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported.
Washington locked up Burks before legal tampering opens Monday, a signal that the front office views him as more than a depth piece heading into 2026. General Manager Adam Peters and the coaching staff had repeatedly praised Burks for his work ethic and practice habits since he arrived in Washington mid-season.
Burks caught 10 of 22 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown across eight contests, logging a 60 percent offensive snap share and quickly climbing the depth chart past veteran options once he was elevated to the active roster.
He signed with Washington’s practice squad on October 17, was elevated for the Week 9 game against Seattle, and was officially added to the active roster on November 5 following a season-ending injury to Luke McCaffrey. He required finger surgery that November after breaking a finger in the Week 10 loss to Detroit, though he returned to action and made his most memorable play weeks later.
During a narrow Week 13 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos, Burks hauled in a one-handed touchdown reception to tie the game in the third quarter — a catch that drew immediate comparisons to one of the most famous grabs in NFL history.
The No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Burks spent parts of four seasons in Nashville before a fractured collarbone in July 2025 training camp led to his release in October. His time with the Titans was defined by injury — turf toe, an LCL sprain, a torn ACL, and a collarbone fracture limited him to 27 games across his tenure there, where he totaled 53 receptions for 699 yards and one receiving touchdown.
The timing of the signing carries implications beyond just keeping a familiar face around. Deebo Samuel’s contract was officially voided this offseason, leaving Washington with a $12.3 million dead cap figure in 2026, and he becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 11. Per NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry, the Commanders are not expected to bring Samuel back, with the team planning to pursue speed at the position and potentially using draft capital to address the receiver room.
With Burks now signed, Washington has four wide receivers under contract for 2026: Terry McLaurin, Jaylin Lane, Luke McCaffrey, and Burks. The Commanders are expected to pursue additional receiver help when free agency officially opens.
Burks, 25, brings size and physicality to a receiver room that will look considerably different than it did at the start of last season. Whether he can stay healthy over a full 17-game schedule remains the central question around a player whose ability has never been in doubt.
Washington finished the 2025 season 5–12.
