Undisputed title match set as WWE builds toward WrestleMania 42

The main events for Night 1 and Night 2 for WrestleMania 42 are officially locked in after Cody Rhodes regained the Undisputed WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre on Friday Night SmackDown.

With his victory, Rhodes will defend the title against Randy Orton, the winner of the 2026 men’s Elimination Chamber. After SmackDown, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul Levesque, released the fight poster for the match on social media.

“Friends. Rivals. The Main Event. Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania,” Levesque captioned in his post on X.

With the Undisputed title match now confirmed, the other main event features World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk defending against the 2026 Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns.

WWE has yet to announce which matches will take place on each night, though details are expected in the coming weeks.

Beyond what WWE has announced, last week’s programming set the stage for other potential WrestleMania matches.

On Monday’s Raw, Seth Rollins sent Paul Heyman to the hospital with a Curb Stomp. Meanwhile, The Vision’s Logan Paul and Austin Theory were taken out by World Tag Team Champions the Usos, who suspect The Vision was behind the attack that forced Jey out of the Elimination Chamber match.

A tag title match between the champions and Paul and Theory could head to Vegas, or serve to set up Rollins vs. Paul. Rollins’ interference at Elimination Chamber led to Paul’s defeat. Costing him the tag titles next could be WWE’s next step in pitting Rollins against the YouTube star in Sin City.

Oba Femi and Rusev got into it, setting up a match this Monday on Raw. A win by Femi could move him closer to a dream bout with Brock Lesnar, who has an open challenge to anyone brave enough to face him at Mania.

Jacob Fatu prevented Drew McIntyre from using a chair on Cody Rhodes during their title match. While that was the extent of his intervention, it’s reason enough for a heel like McIntyre to demand a showdown with “The Samoan Werewolf” on WWE’s Grandest stage.

On the same show, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair defeated Giulia and Kiana James to become the No. 1 contenders to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, held by the Irresistible Forces. Those teams could collide in Vegas.

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas hosts WrestleMania for a second straight year on April 18–19. The first hour of Saturday’s show airs on ESPN2 and Sunday’s on ESPN, with full streaming on the ESPN app. Select movie theaters will also show the event live. Internationally, WrestleMania streams on Netflix.
