It is Tuesday, March 10.
I am in Portland, Oregon, visiting family and doing some business.
I was in an Uber on way back from seeing my best friend. The Uber driver and I struck up a conversation about running. I, of course told him I write on RunBlogRun.com and do some work for BBC sports on an as needed basis.
We spoke about Cooper Lutkenhaus. Then, Cole Hocker and if he could win the 1,500m and 5,000m in LA 2028 (just a note, I think that he can). Then, we spoke about the LA Marathon finish. My driver, a former runner, loved that Nathan Martin, high school cross-country coach from Michigan (Jackson, Michigan), had won by 18/100th of a second, over a collapsing Micheal Kamau, as Toni Reavis noted, in his story. Toni Reavis weaves the story into a multi-layered piece on the race, the competitors and what happens at the end of a marathon. It is, well, riveting! Thanks, Toni!
The video of the finish is EVERYWHERE. Readers saw it on the three major networks, plus all over social media! Nathan Martin has become a viral sports moment across all platforms!
What is the complete story? We go to Toni Reavis for that!
Toni Reavis a long time observer, prognosticator and evangelist for the sport of road running. He is a overly enthusiastic at times, but his writing is precise. His piece on the 2026 LA Marathon tells the nuanced story, and that is what you need to know.
