Pool play in the World Baseball Classic is nearly over, and Team USA is looking to go 4-0 to clinch Pool B.
USA is currently atop the standings at 3-0, but they’ll take on another undefeated team in 2-0 Italy. With Great Britain and Brazil already eliminated, if Team USA gets the win today, the game between Mexico and Italy tomorrow will decide who advances. If Italy defeats the USA, things get a bit messier, as the final standings could come down to run tiebreakers (specifically in a scenario where all three finish 3-1).
But that’s an issue we can worry about later. For now, Team USA will look to keep things simple and win this one to lock up a quarterfinal berth.
Mets’ pitcher Nolan McLean gets the start for the USA, while Italy will be led by the Rockies’ Michael Lorenzen.
Brice Turang is not in the starting lineup for the US after getting the start last night, as Ernie Clement replaces him at second base.
Italy’s lone Brewer representative, prospect Andrew Fischer, is also out of the lineup.
Here are the full lineups for tonight’s game. Team USA is once again the home team, and Team Italy will be the road team. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. CT on FOX.
