Bobby Hurley's Message After Arizona State's Biggest Loss in 70 Years

Earlier this week, speculations emerged on Bobby Hurley’s uncertain future as the Arizona State’s head coach. With Wednesday’s crushing defeat against the Iowa State Cyclones, it appears Hurley’s time may have actually run out.

The 7th-ranked Iowa not only beat the Sun Devils 91-42, they handed them their second-biggest loss ever with a difference of 49 points. Back in 1956, Arizona lost by 50 points against Texas Tech.

It might have been Hurley’s final game as the Sun Devils’ coach whose record fell to 185-167 after 11 seasons with the team. Even Hurley knows that he may not appear on the court next time for the ASU. He made it evident while speaking to reporters during the press conference.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I don’t know. I have spoken about my future next year,” he said, according to ESPN.

However, Hurley made it clear that “I don’t have any regrets. I laid it out all on the line to the best that I could every night. And I did it until the last buzzer sounded.”

Against the Cyclones, only forward Santiago Trout could make some efforts. He scored 13 and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Behind him, center Massamba Diop hit 8 points and 8 rebounds. But they both weren’t enough against a dominating Iowa side.

For the winning team, forward Milan Momcilovic was the top scorer with 21 points. He also scored 2 rebounds and one assist. Moreover, forward Joshua Jefferson achieved a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Forward Blake Buchanan and guard Tamin Lipsey were other key contributors for the Cyclones, scoring 17 and 11 points respectively. Iowa’s 49-point win against the Sun Devils is the largest in Big 12 history, leaving behind Texas’ 43-point victory over Colorado back in 2000.
