Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav expressed his strong urge to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to take place in Pakistan. As much as there seems to be noise around the series, its way of happening seems unclear at times, bound by the political and administrative ties in place.
The Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025, marking the return of the prestigious tournament after a break of eight years. The last time this event took place in 2017, Pakistan defeated India in a closely contested final match; accordingly, the fans hopefully will look forward to more passion in cricketing rivalry when the event is hosted.
“As cricketers, we will play wherever we are sent. I have never been to Pakistan before, so I am excited. The Pakistani people are great, and whenever we get the chance, we will definitely go and play there,” Yadav said at an event in Australia.
Eight international teams will be participating, and the matches will be hosted in three different venues of Pakistan: Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. According to the proposed schedule sent by PCB to ICC, all of the Indian team matches are supposed to be scheduled in Lahore. PCB has allocated Rs12.80bn for remodelling the Lahore Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi National Bank Cricket Arena, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium before starting the tournament.
While all teams that are participating except India has played in Pakistan, the BCCI is awaiting government approval for India’s participation. The PCB remains optimistic about India’s participation as it sees no strong reason for India to withdraw.
The Champions Trophy 2025 can bring back renewed focus on cricket in Pakistan, providing world-class facilities and a thrill of cricketing spectacle. As the event draws closer, all eyes will be on the BCCI’s decision and the potential for a landmark tournament.
