CLUB STATEMENT:
The Club are excited to share with all of our supporters and the local community that the plans for our Community Hub project were approved by South Tyneside Council’s Planning Committee.
This is a major milestone in the project, and is a reflection of the hard work and dedication put in already by everyone involved with the project.
The project will deliver a suite of modern sporting facilities, including a FIFA Pro‑certified artificial main pitch and a dedicated 3G training pitch. These upgrades will support year‑round use and benefit both competitive teams and grassroots football.
A new main stand forms the centrepiece of the development. Designed to transform the spectator experience, the stand will incorporate tiered seating, terraced areas, new changing facilities, a gym, club shop, hospitality spaces, and a flexible function room complete with a balcony overlooking the pitch.
The project will also see big improvements in access, with new pedestrian access into the ground from Victoria Road West, increased car parking provision and improvements to the vehicular access to the site, making the site more accessible to the community groups to host events in the upgraded facilities.

On the latest developments, Club CEO Stephen Rutherford had to say:
“I’m absolutely delighted that the club have Secured planning permission for this development, it is a hugely positive step forward for Hebburn Town FC and the wider South Tyneside community. These new facilities will not only enhance the matchday experience for supporters, but also create a modern, year-round hub for football at every level — from grassroots participation to the first team. We’re proud to deliver a project that strengthens the club’s role at the heart of our community and provides high-quality spaces for players, fans, and local residents to enjoy for many years to come. This development is more than a building and pitches, it’s about reinforcing a place our community love to come to.”
The project will also see the existing Sportsy bar extended beneath the current balcony, increasing capacity and enabling more flexible use of the bar area for events. Our current changing room block will be fully refurbished, and converted into a new Community facility – available for local groups to use to hold small-scale events and meetings.
Sean Hedley, managing director of Hedley Planning, was helped the club to secure the planning approval said:
“These fantastic plans pave the way to a new era of success for a club, which serves thousands of people in the local area and is woven into the fabric of the local community.”
We would like to thank Sean, Blake Hopkinson Architecture and all of the other stakeholders involved in the project to date, who have been instrumental in getting us to this stage.
Construction work is expected to start in May, and the whole project completed within 12-16 months.
