The National Women’s Soccer League season begins this Friday, but the teams aren’t quite finished making moves.

The Seattle Reign and Chicago Stars FC have agreed to a trade that sends forward Jordyn Huitema to the Stars. In return, the Reign received $500,000 in funds — $300,000 in intra-league transfer funds and $200,000 in allocation money.

“Jordyn has been a tremendous professional and teammate during her time with the Reign,” Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore said. “We’re grateful for the commitment and energy she brought to the club and to our community. We wish her nothing but the best in the next chapter of her career.”

“I’m truly excited to be joining Chicago and becoming part of what this club is building,” Huitema said. “The ambition, vision and direction of the organization made this an incredibly compelling opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to the team’s future. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, getting to work alongside the staff and players and continuing to grow in a new environment. I’m also incredibly thankful for the continued support from those who have followed and supported my journey; it means a lot to me, and I’m excited to take you with me into this next chapter of my career. This is an exciting new beginning for me, and I’m eager to get started, embrace the challenge and give everything I can for the team and its supporters.”

“We’re very excited to welcome Jordyn to Chicago,” Chicago Stars FC general manager Richard Feuz said. “Over the past few months, together with our coaching staff, we spent a lot of time identifying the right profile to strengthen our attacking line, and Jordyn quickly stood out. She brings valuable experience in the NWSL and internationally, including winning the Shield and competing in the playoffs, and we believe that will add another important layer to the group we’re building here. Equally as important, her qualities as a forward and the way she approaches the game fit naturally with the style head coach Martin Sjögren and his staff are implementing.”

Huitema joined the Reign in 2022 after a three-year career with Paris Saint-Germain in France. During her NWSL campaign, she has made 70 regular season appearances, starting 58 games. She scored 13 goals and provided five assists. She was on the Reign team that won the 2022 NWSL Shield.

In France, Huitema won a single Coupe de France Féminine title, in 2021-22. PSG was the league runner-up in 2019-20 season.

Huitema, a member of the Canadian women’s national team, is a 2021 Summer Olympic gold medalist, and appeared at two FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, in 2019 and 2023. She has made 96 international appearances, scoring 23 goals, for Canada.
