Formula Legends releases Late 2020 DLC inspired by 2026 season regulations

Formula Legends’ latest DLC brings new cars, tracks and a battery management system based on F1’s new 2026 season regulations.

  • Free Formula Legends update adds 1950s-inspired car, championship and new Temple of Speed circuit variant
  • Free Late 2020s car introduces new battery management mechanics inspired by the current 2026 Formula 1 season
  • Paid Late 2020s Season Pack includes new teams, drivers, championship and Azerbaijan  circuit

Formula Legends has received a substantial update today, with free and paid DLC introducing new cars, tracks, and championships inspired by different eras of Formula 1.

Free for all players, the update adds a new Custom Motors car based on the redesigned cars introduced in the 2026 Formula 1 championship. Available in Custom and Time Attack modes, it features a livery inspired by the Aston Martin team.

New gameplay mechanics see you manage your battery charge and boost deployment, with the ability to switch between low and high downforce modes.

When managing your battery, there are three mappings. Balance mode offers standard performance with balanced consumption, while performance mode offers faster acceleration and top speeds but drains your battery faster. Eco mode, on the other hand, reduces performance for faster recharging.

Another addition is the new Overtake boost, where you can unlock an additional boost for the following lap if you cross the line within one second of the car ahead.

Ironically, it means the indie racer features gameplay mechanics inspired by the new season’s rules and regulations before Codemasters’ and EA’s official F1 game series, with F1 25 due to receive a 2026 expansion.

Contrasting the contemporary car is a classic vehicle inspired by late 1950s F1 cars, alongside a new Late ‘50s championship with new teams and drivers. This is accompanied by a new variant of the Temple of Speed circuit with massive banked curves and “era-specific challenges.”

The free DLC means Formula Legends pays homage to over 70 years of open-wheel racing, with 19 different eras of rules and regulations, 14 locations and 33 track layouts.

Alongside the free content is a new ‘Late 2020s Season Pack,’ released as paid DLC. Priced at £4.99 / $5.99 / €4,99, the expansion adds new teams, drivers and liveries, along with a new championship inspired by the current Formula 1 season. However, those who don’t own the DLC can still race the Custom Motors car in Custom or Time Trial mode.

The paid DLC also includes a new track, with the Azerbaijan circuit featuring a mix of long straights and “fast, technical, free-flowing sections.”

More updates are planned over the next few months, with an online multiplayer beta expected this month ahead of its expected public release in April.

A physical Legacy Edition containing every DLC pack will also launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on 4th June.
