absoluteBLACK, the brand more famously known for its oval chainrings, has launched a new 4-pot brake piston press tool, which is described as “the safe, precise way to reset your pistons.”
This piston press tool is specifically designed to fit all 4-pot MTB calipers and complements other tools within the absoluteBLACK range.
Replacing brake pads is something every bike mechanic gets asked to do, and in theory, it should be a straightforward task. But as pads wear, the pistons move closer together, making it nigh on impossible to fit fresh pads without first resetting them.
Without proper workshop tools, many riders resort to screwdrivers or makeshift levers to pry pistons apart—an approach that applies uneven force and risks cracking delicate ceramic pistons or damaging seals.
According to absoluteBLACK, the new Piston Press applies “even, controlled pressure across both pistons simultaneously.” It does so by safely spreading them apart and preparing the caliper for new pads.
It is constructed from a carbon-fiber–reinforced polymer and secured with titanium hardware, with the brand saying this combines durability with precision.
