The Road to WrestleMania 42 has seen its fair share of casualties. WWE’s locker room has fallen victim to the injury bug, leaving many top talents directionless heading into the Showcase of the Immortals. This year’s card is a delicate puzzle, hinging on two massive roadblocks. As we reported yesterday, Brock Lesnar has a specific demand that is causing a road jam in finalizing the WrestleMania card. However, the final match lineup also hinges on Bron Breakker’s return. Here’s the tentative WrestleMania 42 card if Bron Breakker gets cleared from his hernia surgery.
Bron Breakker’s Hernia Surgery Dictates Entire WrestleMania 42 Card
It’s been weeks since Bron Breakker aggravated a hernia injury by flipping over the announce desk on Raw. The Unpredictable Badass had to undergo surgery immediately in hopes of being cleared for WrestleMania. Time is ticking, and there is still no word on whether Bron Breakker will make it to the Grandaddy of Them All.
WWE is still hopeful that Bron Breakker will be able to compete. However, they need to make a decision sooner rather than later. With poor ticket sales, WWE is desperate to lock down a marquee card.
Their best-case scenario is to have Bron Breakker compete at WrestleMania. Bron Breakker being at WrestleMania opens up a pathway to placate Brock Lesnar’s request, which is to not lose before his retirement match.
If Bron Breakker can’t make it to WrestleMania, it’s back to the drawing board, because finding an opponent for Brock Lesnar will prove challenging. Let’s take a look at the penciled-in card for WrestleMania 42, with a little more than one month to go until showtime!

WrestleMania 42 will take place on April 18th and 19th from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card is always subject to change, but a few of the top matches have been announced as of this post’s date.

- Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Randy Orton
- Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Liv Morgan
- WWE Women’s Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
- Brock Lesnar Open Challenge
While the Brock Lesnar Open Challenge has been confirmed by Paul Heyman, the opponent is still unknown. That’s because a lot hinges on whether Bron Breakker will be cleared to compete for the annual spectacle.
Right now, WWE is banking on Bron Breakker being cleared. WWE Creative has a firm plan in place if the son of Rick Steiner gets the OK from doctors. Let’s take a look at tentative matches for WrestleMania 42 if Bron Breakker competes.
Tentative WrestleMania 42 Matches If Bron Breakker Can Wrestle
The WrestleMania 42 match lineup is an ever-changing creative kerfuffle. It’s anyone’s guess what the final card will be…and if everyone will be happy with the end result. It’s these types of conundrums that led to Road Dogg quitting his job in WWE Creative.
If Bron Breakker is on the WrestleMania card, the undercard matches will be:
- AAA Mega Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Finn Balor
- Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu
- Sami Zayn vs. Trick Williams
- Gunther vs. Dragon Lee
- Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
- WWE Tag Team Titles: The Usos (c) vs. The Vision (Austin Theory and Logan Paul)
- Brock Lesnar Open Challenge: Brock Lesnar vs. LA Knight
Dirty Dom vs. Finn Balor and Drew vs. Fatu are all but confirmed. Based on storylines, WWE is leaning toward Sami Zayn vs. Trick Waillias and Gunther vs. Dragon Lee showdowns. However, many backstage advocates for Gunther are underwhelmed with this option for The Ring General, especially since a match with Brock Lesnar was once on the table.
Nonetheless, the biggest wrench in this story is Bron Breakker’s status. If Bron Breakker cannot compete, then it blows up the bottom half of rumored matches.
Since Brock Lesnar is refusing to lose before his retirement match, LA Knight is the perfect fit for the Open Challenge. While this might upset The Mega Star, WWE is accustomed to putting him in losing situations.
That said, if Seth Rollins is left without a WrestleMania match, he might return at the Showcase of the Immortals to face his former Oracle’s best friend instead. This would leave LA Knight without an opponent, and WWE back to the drawing board to find him one.
Women’s US Title Match In Flux
The men’s roster isn’t the only one feeling the pain from a locker room full of injuries. Jordynne Grace’s ankle injury threw off WrestleMania 42 plans for the Women’s United States Title.
Originally, Giulia was penciled in to defend her Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Tiffany Stratton and Jordynne Grace. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Jordynne Grace will be cleared for the event. This has caused WWE to make a slight pivot.
Rather than booking Stratton vs. Giulia in a Singles Match, WWE is considering Iyo Sky to challenge the current Champion. If WWE goes with this plan, then Tiffany Stratton will be left without plans.
However, there are still many other women on the roster looking for an opponent. That said, WWE will need to make this pivot soon so that the WrestleMania 42 card can take shape.
