The Dallas Cowboys made a notable free-agent addition late Thursday night as they agreed to a one-year deal with cornerback Cobie Durant, according to a team source.

Durant was ranked 120th on The Athletic’s list of top 150 free agents and the 10th-ranked cornerback.

The Rams drafted Durant in the fourth round out of South Carolina State in 2022. As a member of Los Angeles’ secondary, he started 39 of 61 games, including 29 starts over the past two seasons.

One of the most athletic players on the Rams’ roster, Durant has shown steady growth in his career. Last year was his best, as he notched three interceptions during the regular season, including a score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he took an interception for a pick six in Week 12. Durant added three more interceptions in the playoffs to help the Rams finish 12-5 and reach the NFC Championship Game, which they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

The Cowboys struggled at cornerback last season, and they entered the offseason with several question marks. Dallas now has three starting-caliber players at the position with Durant, DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel. However, there are injury concerns for Bland, who has suffered two significant foot injuries over the last two seasons. Revel, meanwhile, is entering his second NFL season after missing time in his rookie season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his final year of college.

The Cowboys have two first-round picks, and they could use one on a cornerback, but don’t have to now. Durant, who played mostly on the outside in Los Angeles with 896 of his 985 defensive snaps coming on the outside last season, ranked 43rd out of 112 cornerbacks last season, according to Pro Football Focus’ grading. Bland was 44th, highest among Dallas’ cornerbacks.
