Defensive Options For The NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers Draft and Free Agency are both on the minds of Packer faithful. The team have been busy in free agency so far. They have traded Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys, released Elgton Jenkins and Nate Hobbs, and signed Benjamin St-Juste. Obviously, there will be more moves to come, especially in the 2026 NFL Draft.

As Packers fans are well-aware, Green Bay does not have a first round pick this year. Nor do they have one next year either. This is because they traded two first round picks to the Cowboys last season for Micah Parsons.

Recently, the NFL released the scheduled 2026 compensatory picks for 2025 free agents, and the Packers were awarded an extra seventh round pick, giving them seven overall selections.

Obviously, whoever the Packers take in the second or third rounds is likely going to have a bigger role/more immediate impact than any other player that they select.

Who could the Packers draft with their second-round pick?

Exactly who Green Bay decides to target in the 2026 NFL Draft is always up for debate. That being said, their biggest needs are defensive tackle and cornerback. The Crazy Time strategy calculator is always a good option for bettors looking to put money on the Draft. With that in mind, here are two players at each of those positions that the Packers could target.

Lee Hunter, Defensive Tackle

A six-foot-four 318-pound behemoth out of Texas Tech, Lee Hunter is projected to be a mid-late second round pick. Last year, he had 41 total tackles, which included 10.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Notably, Hunter was one of the most important parts of a defense that allowed just 68.5 rushing yards per game.

Dontay Corleone – Defensive Tackle

If the Packers really want to get a true nose tackle, they could look at Dontay Corleone out of Cincinnati. At six-foot and 340 pounds, he certainly has the ideal frame of someone Green Bay has been missing in the middle of the defensive line.

That being said, there are some concerns. Corleone has dealt with some injuries, including an ankle injury that limited his playing time last season. Additionally, coaches and trainers have reported that he struggles to keep his weight down and that his conditioning could be an issue in the NFL.

Brandon Cisse – Cornerback

Green Bay certainly has a type of cornerback that they like in terms of physical traits, and Brandon Cisse is just about there. At six-foot, he meets their height threshold, but the Packers may want him to put on a little weight (he is 189 pounds).

A cornerback with first-round talent, Cisse projects as a second round pick due to some injury concerns. He also has limited starting experience in college.

That being said, few cornerbacks in this draft are as fast as Cisse or have the natural talent that he possesses. He would need coaching up on tackling and covering in space, but he has as high a ceiling as anyone at his position.

D’Angelo Ponds – Cornerback

At five-foot-nine and 182 pounds, D’Angelo Ponds is a bit smaller than cornerbacks Green Bay usually targets, but he should be on their board nonetheless. Not only does he have six interceptions across 40 games in college, but he also has scored four non-offensive touchdowns and blocked two punts.

In other words, Ponds could be an immediate contributor right away both on defense and special teams.
