Indiana Professional Golf Association, Indianapolis, IN (March 13) — For the first time in program history, the Indiana PGA Section will have a team represented at the PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup, often referred to as “The Veterans Major.” The 2026 event will take place on Monday, May 11 at Chester Valley Golf Club, located just outside of Philadelphia.
The Secretary’s Cup brings together teams from across the country to celebrate the impact of PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere)—the flagship military program of the PGA of America. Each team is made up of four military veterans and one PGA Professional, competing in a 9-hole scramble format against teams representing PGA Sections from across the nation.
Representing Indiana in the 2026 Secretary’s Cup will be:
- Dan Heavrin – U.S. Army
- Jeremiah Runser – U.S. Army
- Travis McGovern – U.S. Navy
- Gil Sanchez – U.S. Army
- Crystal Morse – PGA Professional
Together, the group will compete against 11 other PGA Sections, proudly representing veterans from across Indiana on the national stage.
Veterans Representing Indiana
Each member of Indiana’s team has experienced firsthand the impact PGA HOPE can have on veterans transitioning back into civilian life.
Dan Heavrin, a U.S. Army veteran from Greenwood, participated in the 2025 PGA HOPE program at Winding River Golf Course, where he found a welcoming community of fellow veterans learning and enjoying the game together.
Jeremiah Runser, a U.S. Army veteran from Westfield, currently continues his service in the Indiana National Guard. He participated in the 2025 PGA HOPE program at Winding River, where the program’s camaraderie and supportive environment helped strengthen his connection to the game and fellow veterans.
Travis McGovern, a U.S. Navy veteran from Franklin, joined the Franklin PGA HOPE program in 2024. Through the program, McGovern has enjoyed the opportunity to learn the game while building friendships with other veterans in his community.
Gil Sanchez, a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel from Shelbyville, first participated in the Indianapolis PGA HOPE program in 2018 and has remained a passionate supporter of the program. Sanchez has often shared how PGA HOPE has helped veterans find connection, purpose, and healing through the game of golf.
Crystal Morse Leading the Indiana Team
Serving as the team’s PGA Professional is Crystal Morse, a PGA Professional at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin and the 2026 Indiana PGA Patriot Award recipient.
A certified PGA HOPE instructor since 2022, Morse has led multiple PGA HOPE programs at The Legends Golf Club, introducing veterans to the game while creating a welcoming environment built around connection and camaraderie. Her work has expanded opportunities for veterans through additional programming, mentorship, and continued play opportunities for PGA HOPE graduates.
Morse’s passion for serving veterans through golf has made a lasting impact on the PGA HOPE community in Indiana, and she is honored to lead this team as they represent the Section at the 2026 PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup.
Representing Indiana on the National Stage
Since its inception in 2016, the PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup has provided veterans with a unique opportunity to represent their home PGA Section while celebrating the powerful bonds formed through the program. For many participants, the event represents far more than competition—it is a celebration of service, resilience, and the friendships built through golf.
For the Indiana team, the opportunity to represent their state alongside fellow veterans and PGA Professionals is both meaningful and exciting. When they tee it up at Chester Valley Golf Club this May, they will proudly represent not only the Indiana PGA Section, but the growing community of veterans across the state who have found purpose, healing, and camaraderie through PGA HOPE.
