Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Campbell, Cardoso, and more

Back-to-back league draws for West Bromwich Albion have dropped them into the EFL Championship’s relegation zone.

George Campbell started and played 90 minutes on Wednesday in the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Hawthorns. The American defender continued his busy run in the starting lineup, making his 32nd appearance of the season in all competitions.

Daryl Dike got on the stat-sheet with an assist as his saved header attempt eventually led to Jayson Molumby’s opener for the Baggies. However, James Morrison’s squad would see another potential winning result slip away in stoppage time.

Canada forward Cyle Larin came off the bench to equalize for the Saints, earning them a share of the spoils.

Campbell finished the match with seven duels won, two fouls drawn, and seven clearances as he delivered another solid shift at the back. The 24-year-old has remained a top performer for the club this season despite the Baggies overall struggles in the Championship.

Up next for West Brom is a home date with Hull City on March 14 before a trip to Bristol City seven days later.

Elsewhere, Johnny Cardoso started in Atletico Madrid’s first leg hammering of Tottenham. Aidan Morris and Middlesbrough suffered a rare home loss to Charlton Athletic. Alex Zendejas started in Club America’s first leg win over the Philadelphia Union. Malik Tillman featured off of the bench in Bayer Leverkusen’s draw with Arsenal.
