Green Bay Packers Named “team To Monitor” As Trade Destination For Former First Round Quarterback

Green Bay Packers Named “team To Monitor” As Trade Destination For Former First Round Quarterback

A couple of years ago, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst told the media that he wanted his team to, once again, become known for being a quarterback factory. Back in the 1990’s numerous quarterbacks that came in as backups to Brett Favre went on to become Pro Bowl starters on other teams. Gutekunst wants that to happen again.

With Malik Willis signing with the Miami Dolphins in free agency after two successful seasons backing up Jordan Love, it appears that Green Bay could be well on its way to achieving that vision. If Willis is successful in Miami, it will be an indication that the Packers have, once again, turned into a producer of quality quarterbacks.

Also with Willis gone, Green Bay needs a new project/backup.

The Green Bay Packers have interest in Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson

The Packers currently have Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord on their roster as potential backup options behind Love. However, the Indianapolis Colts have put their former first round pick, Anthony Richardson, on the trading block.

And apparently, Green Bay is interested:

The fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson has fallen out of favor in Indianapolis, who just signed Daniel Jones to a two-year $100 million contract. Indeed, a change of scenery is definitely needed for Richardson, who received a great deal of criticism for subbing himself out of a game because he was tired.

In 17 career games, Richardson has a 50.6% completion percentage, 2,400 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a 67.8 passer rating.

He would almost certainly be an interesting addition to Matt LaFleur’s quarterback school. However, he also comes with an $8.5 million salary in 2026, which the Packers may not want to pay.
