The Green Bay Packers have said goodbye to another player in the offseason, with Romeo Doubs leaving Titletown for Foxborough.
Doubs decided to take his talents to the AFC East, particularly to the New England Patriots, who signed him to a $68 million contract this week. The former Nevada Wolf Pack star wideout had played his entire career in the NFL with the Packers, and he’s now to begin a new chapter in his stint in his pro stint, this time with the reigning AFC champions.
Why did Doubs go to the Patriots after four years with the Packers?
The 25-year-old Doubs had his reason why he chose the Patriots, and he shared it with the media following his move.
“I felt like it was an opportunity, I felt like I couldn’t pass on, in terms of just continuously staying grounded and growing on and off the field, I really believe this is the place where I can fulfill that,” Doubs said, via Patriots on CLNS.
It is quite a salary raise for Doubs, whose previous contract with Green Bay was just for $4.34 million over four years, which was also his rookie deal.
In other words, Doubs got a much bigger bag and landed in a seemingly favorable situation, with the Patriots establishing themselves as a force to reckon with not just in the AFC but in the entire league.
Like in Green Bay, Doubs will be working with a young quarterback in Drake Maye, who’s still on the rise.
In four seasons with the Packers, Doubs accumulated totals of 2,424 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns with 141 first downs on 202 receptions and 320 targets through 59 games (50 starts).
